We made it to the championship round! In the past month, our readers have battled it out and voted to have their favorite PSA rise to the top of our 2018 March Adness competition. And now, we’re down to our final two competitors: Shelter Pet Adoption and Adoption from Foster Care. Who will ultimately be crowned our winner? It’s up to you!
Voting will begin on Thursday, April 5th. Register to vote here to participate!
Shelter Pet Adoption
Between 6-8 million pets enter shelters or rescue groups each year, yet only half will be adopted. This leaves millions of healthy and treatable dogs and cats who still need our help to find homes. To raise awareness for shelter pet adoption, the Humane Society of the United States, Maddie’s Fund and the Ad Council built an interactive laboratory where adoptable pets made their own social media posts by interacting with elements on set. These posts were then published on The Shelter Pet Project’s Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. All this play laddered up to a serious request: Adopt shelter pets. Find adoptable shelter pets near you at TheShelterPetProject.org.
Adoption from Foster Care
There are over 118,000 children in the U.S. foster care system currently waiting for an adoptive family. However, older teens have lower adoption rates and spend 50% more time waiting to be adopted than younger children. No matter our age, we never outgrow the need for a loving and supportive family. Whether prospective parents can successfully wake up a teen or not, parents don’t have to know it all to be a perfect parent to a teenager – they just need to be there.
