Ad Council: Smokey Bear or McGruff?
Marisa Levine: Smokey!
AC: What’s on your desktop home screen?
ML: The Pandora logo that the company pre-loaded on to our computers. I have too many windows/apps open to even notice most of the time!
AC: Android or iPhone?
AC: Favorite social platform?
ML: Instagram! I’m a very visual person.
AC: Favorite social good ad campaign?
ML: I loved the Always #LikeAGirl campaign. It drew attention to the social issues young girls face today, which not many brands do. I also love the fact that it set out to change a meaning of a phrase that’s been around forever and turn it into a more positive one.
AC: In a nutshell, what’s your job/what do you do?
ML: I’m a Senior Manager of Ad Product Strategy at Pandora. Our team generates advertiser demand and sell-through for Pandora’s ad products and data capabilities.
AC: How do you think advertising can be a force for good?
ML: Advertising is a powerful tool that can bring awareness to important issues that may not be top of mind for most people. It can help shift perceptions, encourage community involvement, and most importantly – inspire action and change.
AC: What’s the best professional advice you’ve ever been given?
ML: Do the job you want, not the job you have.
AC: Who’s been your greatest influence?
ML: Can I have 2?! My mom will always be my #1 influence, but I’ve also always looked up to my first boss, Jamie. I haven’t worked for her for over 9 years but I always look to her for professional advice. She’s a successful Media VP raising two boys – I hope to be as badass as her one day!
AC: What have you gotten out of working with the Ad Council?
ML: Working with the Ad Council has definitely opened my eyes to the good that advertising can do! There are so many issues/causes out there that need our attention, so it’s really nice to see so many of them getting exposure, at scale, through their media partners.
