As a woman, there’s nothing that inspires me more than seeing other women take up extraordinary fights for their rights and hearing women tell their own stories. Luckily for me, women and their stories were the focus of Women’s History Month. Here are a few of our favorite spots from brands that recognize the accomplishments and power of women. While today is the last day of March, let us remember through the year and beyond that females are strong as hell.
ESPNW’s When I Play
A bold declaration on behalf of all female athletes to the sports entertainment industry and the world that we’re “not for your assessment or your arousal.” The narrator sharply observes that, “no boy I know has ever been told he shouldn’t play.” The powerful narration is paired with depictions of women – young, old, and of different races – as strong athletes.
Ann Taylor’s This is Ann
This spot celebrates the progress womankind has made through the years. “This is Ann” reminds us to reflect on the women who came before us and more importantly, to encourage us to stand in solidarity with the women beside us today. Even better that this video was created by an all-female creative team.
To launch their #StrengthHasNoGender campaign, Brawny replaced the Brawny Man on its packaging with a Brawny Woman. They also released a series of short films featuring inspiring women in the STEM fields and an anthem video honoring barrier-breaking trailblazers from Susan B. Anthony to Serena Williams.
P&G’s latest spot continues to challenge stereotypical gender roles and shows two girls working on a science project and a dad changing diapers. A world free of gender bias is a better world for us all.
