As the fevered rush of the Super Bowl draws to a close and both Patriots and Seahawks fans return to the doldrums of normal life, everyone else is left to review and contemplate the sole reason many non-football fans tune into the big game: the ads. This year there was the typical mix of puppies and Clydesdales, fast cars and moving patriotic anthems, but there was also something else. This year we noticed a decidedly somber tone (we’re looking at you, Nationwide) that felt new and different for our beloved annual event. As sports fans across the country tuned in for touchdowns, they were also greeted with thoughtful and compelling advertising that struck a chord above the normal football fare. While not preachy, these ads were able to inspire, and in some cases, educate. They covered everything from home accidents and domestic abuse to online bullying. We have included a list below of our favorite ads that both encouraged and inspired social good.
