SXSW is fast approaching. We are busy making schedules, double checking flight numbers, and, of course, scanning SXSW’s website for panels we are interested in attending. Particularly panels that feature non-profits and social good. Hearing from other industry leaders about how they are connecting with audiences is always beneficial, and we look forward to hearing more. Here are five panels that caught our eye:
1. Corporate Innovators for Social Good – Sunday March 9 12:30-1:30pm
Companies believe that by having a corporate social responsibility that they are meeting the needs the community, but how do certain leading brands instill diversity, social impact and innovation into the DNA of their culture and business model? What lessons can you learn from these global brands so you can use their models, insights and principles to create social impact through your company or organization? 2. Hackathons for the Social Good – Sunday March 9 11:00am-12:00pm
Digital technology can be a powerful tool for solving real problems in the communities and societies in which we live. Come network, mingle and brainstorm with people who share your interest in promoting the social good through hacking and hackathons.
3. #GivingTuesday: Inside the Sharknado of Giving – Sunday March 9 5:00pm-6:00pm
In this fireside chat, three of the people behind the #GivingTuesday movement talk about philanthropy, Facebook and the power of sharing. Join Stanford University’s Rob Reich, Facebook’s Libby Leffler and 92Y’s Henry Timms as they share lessons learned from the #GivingTuesday movement and what they are learning about the changing landscape of social good.
4. Humanizing Technology & Using Innovation for Good Saturday March 8, 3:30pm-4:30pm
How do you make technology emotional and innovative-cool at the same time? This panel will show how Finch and Reactive invented an interactive robot arm that was fueled by Facebook for the non-profit organization Save Our Sons. This discussion will look at how they used innovative tech and emotional social media to implore people to sign and share something online – without the help of paid media spend. Attendees will be able to experience and interact firsthand with ‘The Most Powerful Arm Ever Invented.
5. What Is the Future of Non-profits? – Friday March 7 5:00pm-6:00pm
Many individuals at SXSW stand at the intersection of for-profit, brands, social good startups and nonprofits. This is a session for those like-minded folks to come together and talk about what the future holds for the mothers and fathers of today’s social good startups, the “old-fashioned” nonprofit organization.
