We appreciate those of you who have taken the time to voice your concerns about our Caregivers Assistance PSA and concerns about the background audio file. Our pro bono ad agency who created this video, used a pre-existing, fictional vintage audio file as ambient background noise to invoke an earlier era; it was not intended to provide any additional messaging or for any additional purpose.
We apologize for any confusion surrounding the video and hope that the audio won’t distract from the social good that has and continues to be accomplished through this Ad Council campaign, which you can learn more about here: http://www.adcouncil.org/Our-Campaigns/Family-Community/Caregiver-Assistance.
Created in partnership with AARP, this campaign is intended to raise awareness and better support the 42.1 million caregivers nationwide who are caring for an older parent or loved one. In 2009, caregivers in the United States provided an estimated $450 billion worth of unpaid care to aging relatives and friends. Almost three in 10 people who are caring for someone say their life has changed with caregiving, oftentimes for the negative. More than one in five say their weight, exercise habits, or social life has/have suffered. Emotionally, one in five say they are generally unhappier and one in three say they feel sad or depressed.
Our PSAs are supported pro bono by a nationwide network of over 33,000 media outlets that includes TV and radio stations, print outlets (i.e. magazines, newspapers), outdoor (i.e. billboards, bus stops) and the internet (i.e. web banners). They raise awareness about critical social issues that we feel serves the public interest.
We hope this clears up any misunderstandings about the background audio of this PSA. Thank you for being a caring community and sharing your thoughts and concerns.
