Oh hey, dads can blog too!

Written by Ryan Estorninos | 2:19 pm June 17, 2011

joey1Father’s Day is upon us!  While it may not be common knowledge, a dad can make one heck of a blog about being just that.  Being a new dad myself, this is something I find extremely fascinating!

Dad blogs accomplish goals such as awareness, information sharing and testimony.  However, above all else they promote involvement.

If you want to reach a dad or are even just a bit interested in what they’re talking about, here are a few blogs that raise the bar in the realm of “Daddy Blogs.”

Dad Centric (www.dadcentric.com)

Dad Centric is a blog run by a stable of dad writers.  This informational, yet highly entertaining and unique, blog is comprised of many different stories, reviews, essays and interviews.  The blog has a creative spin that makes it generally appealing towards “modern fathers.”

For instance, check out this hilarious post on modern cover songs intended for kids!

DIY Fathers (www.DIYFathers.com)

This is a blog comprised of useful quick posts.  The layout makes it simple for dads to find resources based on the age group their children are in.  DIY Fathers also has a “Mother’s Advisory Board” keeping the mother’s perspective visible.

Written by Ryan Estorninos | 10:18 am May 26, 2011

fbnp

Attention nonprofits!  Facebook just launched their new non-profit resource center, Non-Profits on Facebook.  This one-stop shop provides educational materials, tutorials and a downloadable non-profit guide.  Specifically, you can learn more about social plug-ins, ads and the insights dashboard. You can also find out how to add applications, places and events to your Page.   And some standard best practices we can always be reminded about: “be personal and educational”, create content worth sharing”, “spread the words, etc”

While this is mainly a “how-to” toolbox it’s a helpful, centralized hub where nonprofits can view what their colleagues are doing and share tips.  Check it out!

The little bird that could: Twitter looks ahead to the future

Written by Ryan Estorninos | 4:14 pm April 18, 2011

10-Twitter-2011In its first five years, we’ve seen what Twitter can do and how far it’s influence, or more specifically its users’ influence, can go.

So what has Twitter been good for?

Following news events and newsmakers

Twitter has given users a unique ability to read and directly communicate with those who make the news.  Never before has this access been so readily available to anyone.

Trending and breaking news discussed:

Since Tweets appear in real-time, the most thought provoking and interesting Tweets “trend” and are discussed.

A voice for the people:

One person can easily be ignored.  But the same message echoed by thousands, by agents of change. This can get the attention of millions of people.

So what’s next for Twitter?

Twitter as a poll gathering device

Since millions of people are chiming in simultaneously about specific topics, Twitter can be useful in gathering public opinion.

“So in Twitter posts and tweets and so on, if there’s specific factual information that’s being mentioned — they want that extracted,” Srihari says. “There’s also definitely an interest in sentiment and opinion mining.” (Taken from the High-Tech PR Blog, Lois Paul)
