A Video Can Say It All

Written by Amanda Lehner | 2:08 pm January 25, 2012

Does anyone read anymore? I think yes, but not for long on the internet. If there is a video version and text version, the video will win out. As I type, I feel the pressure just to post the video examples for this blog and quit with these words.

Video accomplishes many things online — they can be visual, entertaining, and explanatory and it’s all less work for the consumer. So instead of relying solely on copy to explain the most important pieces of information about your organization, I say pick the things that are critical for people to know and produce a video about it. Make sure that video is captivating, short and conversational. Remember that online you are always competing with talking cats and cute babies.

Check out this video below by Grey. In 3 minutes they let you know who they are and why they are awesome. I also like how they use images and voiceover, which is effective and can save a bundle.(Note: there are talking babies and cats in it).

Also last week, Ad Council launched a video about how we work, produced by our friends at Free Range. We recognized that we are a complex and unique organization. And it’s not always easy to grasp our model and services. This video allows us to tell our story and communicates our impact to our potential sponsors and consumers.

Halloween Costume Ideas Brought to You by the Ad Council

Written by Amanda Lehner | 2:53 pm October 27, 2011

Still don’t know what you are going to be for Halloween? How about an Ad Council icon? Here are our ideas for you and what you will need.

Smokey Bear
smokey-bearIf you have a bear suit then by all means dress that up with the following accessories: a belt buckle and ranger’s hat with the name “Smokey” on it and a shovel. Remember to wear denim jeans for that classic Smokey look. Want to play the part too? Tell your friends at the Halloween party “only you can prevent wildfires” and point your paw at them.

Rosie the Riveter

Rosie

This one needs more attitude than accessories. Rosie was tough and ready to work! Slap on a red bandanna and a buttoned down jean shirt, then flex your muscles for all to see.

The Crying Indian

Crying Indian

A full on American Indian outfit would be a good start. Iron Eyes Cody had a very traditional fringe look and necklaces. Then make sure to wear two pigtails with a feather in one. For dramatic effect, bring a bottle of Visine to your party and drop a tear in your right eye when no one’s looking. Or maybe you can summon some real tears if you think about global warming long enough.

McGruff the Crime Dog

Crime 2

This one’s basically a dog suit with a trench coat and fedora. Remember, McGruff was a wet-nosed crime-stopper but he also knew how to have fun. He could even play a few songs on the piano. So if you end up being McGruff at a Halloween party balance the vigilante furtive side-eyed glances with singing songs with important messages.

If you want to watch our icons in action to fine tune your costume, view our classic PSAs here: http://www.adcouncil.org/Our-Work/The-Classics.

Happy Halloween!
