What You See is What You Get with Vizualize.me’s Resume Service

Written by Carter Gibson | 10:53 am

I’m an early adopter of just about anything I can get my hands on – Android tablets, 4G phones, Spotify, Google+, OSX Lion – and most recently I’ve been granted early beta access to two very cool websites. They are VoyURL and Vizualize.me. I’ll elaborate on VoyURL another day. For this post I want to focus on Vizualize.me. The site provides a very simple, very powerful service – Vizualize your resume in one click. Pulling from your Linkedin profile, an elegant, focused, and uncluttered resume is generated in infographic form. I clearly couldn’t resist trying it out.

In a job market that only seems to be getting more competitive, differentiation is practically a must. “In the age of data overload, the text resume is slowly becoming a living anachronism,” reads Vizualize.me’s press release. I personally couldn’t agree more and have always thought that resumes can blend together and have a tendency to show very little about who you are as a person. Not being very traditional myself, I decided that my resume needed a Photoshop makeover. This was my finished product:

Shortly after I restructured my resume by hand I found Vizualize.me and saw just how much further I could take my resume. Intricate infographics once reserved for only the upper echelon of graphic artists are now easily populated from your LinkedIn profile and plugged into a customizable format that would make anyone who spend hours in InDesign or Photoshop green with envy. See Ashton Kutcher’s as an example below:

This is something I had to have. I feverishly tried to invite everyone I knew to be granted early access and all but harassed their Facebook page before being granted a very early invitation to the private beta (shout-out to the site’s founder, Eugene Woo, for staying in contact with me).Since I joined the beta I’ve been giving feedback and watching the service evolve and I’ve got to say, I’m impressed. Here are some of my favorite features:

  • When viewing the resume online you can read the job description by hovering your mouse over the position (See the founder’s resume as an example)
  • An ever-expanding selection of templates and customization options to assure that no two resumes look too much alike
  • Did I mention that it turns your resume into an infographic!?

Now, it should be noted that my revamped resume and my new Vizualize.me resume are not always the best option to apply with. Fields like marketing, social media, and advertising may be ready for something so progressive, but finance, accounting, and management probably wouldn’t appreciate it yet. But remember, “In the age of data overload, the text resume is slowly becoming a living anachronism.” If I had to bet, Vizualize.me is perfectly content helping to speed up that process.

Vizualize.me has over 16,000 requests and is targeting young professionals in marketing, social media, and advertising with a LinkedIn account to grant early beta access to. Invites are hard to come by currently but head over to Vizualize.me to sign up. Access is being slowly rolled out as the site irons out bugs and continues to add new features.

  1. This is really cool! I can’t wait for it to go live. Having a service as simple as this will surely help move the needle towards more creative resumes.
