Inside the Ad Council Studio: Meeting the Interns

Interns

What a great summer this has been at the Ad Council! Eight of us lucky interns were offered the amazing opportunity of joining the Ad Council family for the summer of 2011. Although we have only been here for a few months, we are all learning so much by working alongside the wonderful and knowledgeable employees that have been providing us with guidance, advice, as well as rewarding experiences.

Being able to intern at an organization that has produced iconic and historic PSAs nationwide has not only made our family and friends super jealous, but it has also instilled a sense of pride in us to be working for such great causes, rather than “the man”. It is definitely safe to say that working in this fun and friendly environment beats the typical, mundane college student’s summer.

Although we all work in different departments (one of which is even interning in a different state), we all stay connected and have learned a lot from each other.

Let’s meet everyone!

Campaign Management:

Carter: Originally I am from Virginia Beach, VA but now live in Washington, DC, where I have been assisting with different campaigns, such as Anti-Texting While Driving and Feed the Pig. I will be getting a BSBA with a specialization in Marketing and a BA in Film & Media Arts from the American University Kogod School of Business. I am a roller coaster fanatic, and not to toot my own horn, but I can name who built each one just by looking at the ride!

Ben: After seeing Ad Council PSAS, I thought to myself “I want to do that!” I am originally from Northern California and am entering my final year at Stanford University, where I study Human Biology with a concentration in health policy and marketing.  I was a member of the Harmonics, an a cappella group at Stanford.  I also took a year off of college to perform in the musical “RENT.”

Amanda: I am an incoming senior from Westchester, NY studying Marketing and Organizational Behavior at Washington University in St. Louis. I would love to travel a lot more and explore many new places (I can do without the airplane food though!) I came to the Ad Council wanting to learn more about the field of marketing and it has been amazing being able to see the behind-the-scenes work that make the campaigns so successful.

Corporate Communications

Karen: I am from Marlboro, NJ and attend Rutgers University, studying both Psychology and Communication. As a Corporate Communications intern, I assist with coverage reports, press releases, and daily news coverage with the Public Relations department. I also work with the Special Events team, assisting with the Annual Public Service Award Dinner. After visiting Japan and Israel, I became infatuated with learning about different cultures in the most hands-on way possible! I want to make it my goal to visit every continent, except maybe for Antarctica!

Research

Danielle: I am from Staten Island, NY and I am an MPH student at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health, studying Sociomedical Research. I consider myself a “foodie,” Restaurant Week is kind of like my Christmas. As a Research intern, I help with evaluation reports, writing campaign studies, and generating the occasional tracking data report.

Legal  & Business Affairs

Laura: I am from Seattle, Washington and currently attend NYU Law School. I found out about the Ad Council while enrolled in Media Communication courses. I love hiking & camping and want to reach my goal of visiting every U.S. National Park (making sure to take the advice from Smokey Bear and not start any forest fires, of course!)

Media Marketing

Kristine:  Although I am from St. Louis, MO, I have fallen in love with the fast-paced NYC lifestyle. I love running and exercising, starting many of my mornings off with a jog on the Brooklyn Bridge. I attend the University of Missouri, where I study Strategic Communications and Psychology. I assist with PSA email alerts, media contact lists, as well as budgets.

Emily: I’m originally from Africa (I lived in Ghana and Ivory Coast for nine years), but I currently live in South Dakota. Knowing how to carry on conversations in four different languages makes it very fun to meet different people in the city. I am a student at the University of Missouri and study Journalism, French, and Textile Apparel Management.

Although we all come from different backgrounds, the experiences we take away from interning at the Ad Council will definitely leave a great impact on all of our lives. We are the biggest Ad Council groupies and are excited for what’s to come for the remaining summer months!
